Hi folks, today I made a faux par! I restored some business files on my computer, and now I have lost my 2008 business files. If info has been written over, will a system restore fix the problem? Thanks

Have you anymore info, CG? I don't think a system restore will do the job, you may need "proffessional assistance".

I always need professional help, lol.

Well lets see, I restored my 2007 files, and of course it re wrote over everything in my program. In the process it wiped out my 2008 files within that program. I did manage to find a file that was modified on March 22, but of course I cannot open it.

Thanks guys. It looks as if I am going to have to re enter everything. Thank goodness it is only three months work. This is the most annoying programme I have ever worked with.

There are file recovery programs about some are free. never used them myself so I don't know but worth a shot, if the files have the same names the new ones will automatically overwrite the originals

It's called Tenant File. I am still putting the info back on. What is the point of having a back up that you can't open Rolling Eyes We are looking into another software programme on Thursday. It is web based and everything is stored on two servers and backed up regularly. Will have to see the cost invovled, but it cetainly can't be any worse that the current programme.

Instead of paying others to store your software, why not just use back up programs that copy contents of one folder or file onto a seperate hard drive, programs such as the ones mentioned

You set up yourself what you want backing up, when you want the backup, and just leave it to it.

As for file recovery.

System restore only works on Windows system files, not personal ones, so yes as said above you have very little chance of recovering them that way.

File recovery programs, great yeah, IF they work, you might just end up with fragmented files anyway.

Thanks guys. I have to work around the Windows XP back up program. Apparently this tenant file doesn't work with XP's built in mastering software. I put Nero on the computer to burn to CD's, but it only gives me the choice of an image, not data, on this particular computer.
