Hello Everyone,
I joined the forum because I read that you are looking at doing some Guitar Tuition in the near future.
Any ideas when you are likely to start this? - Just that I`m an old mid-30`s bloke who picked up a cheap strat copy and I am struggling with playing the damn noisy contraption...
Got me a Wah-Wah pedal, but it sounds more like a girl band than Jimi Hendrix.
Oh, my main guitar heroes are : Hendrix (naturally); Jimmy Page; John Fruiscante (RHCP); Gary Moore and Mr Slash. Although My Chemical Romance, Muse and Tenacious D are becoming a frequent audio tune on my drive-time CD collection.
Cheers!! |

hiya Shaggyd
Hendrix was awesome but I prefer Eric Clapton he's a bit more mellow.
I like jazz guitars too like Django Reinhart and Charlie Christian who started it all with electrics.
Have you given your guitar a name like BB King calls his "Lucille"? |

Nope, as I bought it for Mrs Shaggyd for Christmas 2 years ago. She said she always wanted one, and when she got it, said that it was too difficult to learn. In the meantime, I had a go at teaching myself with it (out of curiosity) and the bug bit me. Some people enjoy doing the Times crossword/Sudoku, but I enjoy trying to understand/learn how to play a guitar. It`s the puzzle of how to crack a specific problem while learning that I enjoy.
...Although I am looking at buying a guitar for myself and probably will name it in the future. Currently, the guitar is known as "The Missus' Guitar"... |

To be honest, I`ll say start at the beginning as I am useless at remembering chord names (but recognise the shapes) and have no sense of timing/rhythm. Somewhere along the line I know I`m doing things wrong, but need to be shown how to correct them. Half the time I can hit a decent barre, the other time it`s a dud. So I guess it`s a start from the beginning and progress from there. |

From your video, it`s right up my street! I`m not a fan of Pink Floyd, but your blues playing on the LP gives it the "Gary Moore plays Money" touch..
But that`s the stuff I`m wanting/trying to learn. I`m currently trying to learn the GM tribute version of "Don`t believe a word" from Guitar Techniques issue 123, which is great as it is breaking me into playing the pentatonic scale and learning how to do full bends. |

Sounds like your half way there...the only advice i can give regarding bar chords and the hit and miss your experiencing, and that is, to learn to play these chords, im assuming your right handed so you make the chords with your left, using the last three fingers of your left hand learn to play EMajor, EMinor, AMajor, Aminor and CMajor....once youve cracked them your bar finger should fall into place nicely... |
