I well remember being asked, with another pupil, to go to the funeral of one boy who had died, tragically. Some of you might remember Billy Owen who died following the removal of his legs by amputation. I cannot remember where he lived but at the age of 15 this was a day I will never forget.One leg had been removed due to gangrene following an accidental collision with a goal post while playing football. The other, I believe because the infection travelled. Tragic loss. It rained so hard that we were both soaked to the skin and the said Mr Trevor Lovatt sent us both home early (as soon as he saw the state we were in).
