thats what i was wondering , one way way of making your pc run faster is to disable any programmes that auto run on start up ,pointless having them runinng if you dont use them on a regular basis _________________ And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting

when you have a desktop screen full of icons, your using valuable video memory which slows down the operation of your computer, by adding them all to a seperate system process like object dock that does not use the desktop screen memory you free it up... my computer runs smoother and faster now without all those desktop icons. |

windows xp and vista are essentially lots of programs assembled together to make the operating system... by taking the items of your desktop and letting a seperate program take control of them you free up screen memory, and this is one thing that can slow your computer down... |

I have 4, everything else is in the start menu, with 4 different ones in the quick launch area, so basically i have access to 8 programs without running a separate program for them. Don't get me wrong, each to their own, but in my opinion, adding a program which uses memory, to free memory is kinda pointless | your right in one respect, by loading another program to free other memory does seem pointless, but the memory the program uses does not slow the computer down, by removing things that use video memory it increases the speed.. ive just installed it on my mums computer which is a bog standard pentium 4 running at 2.9ghz, it was taking ages to load, i installed object dock and added all her desktop icons to it, did a restart and her computer loaded 1minute quicker since it was referencing and finding all the shortcut programs which she was using, and once once the dock had loaded it was ready to use and it solved all her performance issues.. but its down to personal preference, i personally hate having to look through my start menu to find what im looking for |
