Teenagers will be given compulsory lessons in cooking healthy meals under plans to combat obesity, the Government has announced.
Schools Secretary Ed Balls is asking the public to suggest ideas for the classic English and world dishes that all pupils should learn to cook.

I think that it is good they are asking the public for their opinion. they may get good feedback. Don`t know how parents will react though?? I suppose some will be for it and some against. |

I work in a secondary school all the food that is prepared is either steamed or cooked in the oven. We are not allowed to fry anything or use fatty foods. I agree that kids do need to be taught how cook and eat healthily. If schools were to teach them, then it would have to be started when they are in primary school as by the time they reach secondary education they will have gained a mind of there own and are able to discuss the issues with their teachers. Unfortunately at the moment a celebrity chef has ruined school meals and the children are against what choice of foods they are given. |

Thats good because there are kids out there that arent encouraged at home to eat healthy or to learn to cook.
Without education then the fast food and unhealthy choices will continue. _________________ Woman was Gods second blunder! |

We had cookery lessons in school, never did us any harm. Cant understand why they were stopped.
I cant see that parents can object, cos they certainly aren't teaching their kids how to cook, other than to chuck a ready meal in the mike.
I think its a great idea to bring these lessons back. _________________ Amazing you put something in the wardrobe for a little while and it shrinks 2 sizes |
